Major strides at Maritime 253: Foundation set and walls on the rise

Momentum is building at the future site of the Maritime | 253 Skills Center at the Port of Tacoma. Crews have officially completed the concrete foundation, and preparations are now underway for pouring the building’s concrete floor slab.

Across the site, workers are assembling stud wall panels, framing each piece with precision. These panels will be stacked and staged, then lifted into place by forklift once the slab is cured. The energy is shifting from groundwork to vertical construction, and it’s an exciting change to witness.

Concrete crews are hard at work, moving efficiently across the site. In parallel, planning continues behind the scenes as the school district's Planning & Construction and the TCF Architecture teams refine floor plans—including simulator locations, equipment layouts and furnishings.

Maritime|253 is more than just a building—it’s a future hub for hands-on training, designed to connect students with real-world opportunities in Washington’s thriving maritime industry. With every new milestone, we move closer to opening the doors to a space that will launch countless careers.
