Inside Maritime|253, classrooms are taking shape. Lockers and cabinets are being installed. Fresh paint is going on walls. Next week, crews will begin delivering some of the specialized equipment that will power hands-on instruction and real-world training.

Outside crews are preparing for the parking lot to be poured. Benches where students and the community can enjoy the waterfront are being installed, and lighting along the future promenade. Once complete, the site will offer public waterfront access, and spaces that invite visitors to experience the water up close.

Made possible by the 2020 school construction bond approved by Tacoma voters, Maritime|253 sits on a 21.1-acre site owned by the Port of Tacoma, alongside the Port’s new Maritime Business Center. Together, the two facilities represent a powerful investment in the region’s maritime future and in the students who will help shape it.

Construction remains on track for completion this fall, with the Port’s Maritime Business Center expected to be finished in spring 2027.

Enrollment is now open for the 2026–2027 school year. Maritime|253 will serve high school students from across the South Sound, preparing them for high-demand maritime careers through hands-on, career-connected learning, right on the water where those careers begin.
